Then Jacob tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and mourned for his son many days. All his sons and daughters came to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. “No,” he said, “I will continue to mourn until I join my son in the grave.” So his father wept for him.
— Genesis 37:34-35
Jacob somehow have shown favoritism to one of his children. And this also have lead the rest to be jelous of one who was favored, Joseph. It caused Jospeh’s brothers to speak unkind words to him. They hated him so much that they really wanted to get rid of him from their household.
Jealousy towards another is a dangerous feeling. It might cause the person to do harm to the other. Jospeh was plotted to be killed by his brothers who were jealous of him. Jealousy is something that we should be watchful of because we may not know that it’s already consuming us, and that it would later on cause us to think of harming the person we are jealous of.
I will not die but live,
and will proclaim what the Lord has done.
The Lord has chastened me severely,
but he has not given me over to death.
Open for me the gates of the righteous;
I will enter and give thanks to the Lord.
